Now we don’t normally write about issues like this but what an amazing story and business Twitter has become. If you know anything about Twitter, or really follow the news closely you will have already heard that Twitter has become one of the only outlets for the Iranian people to speak out during this uprising. This has been an amazing situation for the users of Twitter who got involved. It is hard to believe that a service like Twitter has been such a huge outlet for these people. Users all over Twitter were posting remarks ending their “Tweets” with #iranelection signifying those following the trend that this is something to read. Can you even imagine being censored to the point that the only voice you had left was limited to a quick 140 character post on Twitter?

It just shows you the power of originality in business. It doesn’t even matter if the guys who started Twitter are making money anymore, this has become something far bigger than a job or some traditional business. Twitter had a 90 minute scheduled maintenance where the service would be unavailable tonight. The users of Twitter spoke up and requested that this be postponed so the Iranian people would have a voice and not be silenced. At one point I saw over 600 posts containing #nomaintenance (in reference to the scheduled maintenance) go out in just a couple minutes. Twitter responded finally and agreed to postpone this maintenance due to the shear size of its opposition.

What if we could all own a business regardless of its size or market that could have an impact on the lives of many. Not just a simple imapct but a positive impact that will stick in peoples minds and create a good memory when thinking back to the times they used that companies service or product. This is the ultimate goal I believe in a business lasting poitive impact on its target market. I’m not saying that Twitter is the greatest business model or anything like that. I am just saying what an impact this “business” had on the lives of a struggling country over the past few days. Maybe I have hyped this up too much, but we can let the Iranian Tweeps decide.
